Warwick University is an official BSAC (British Sub Aqua Club) Branch, so by joining you are able to take many internationally-recognised BSAC courses for your diving.
If you've never dived before or you're looking to progress your qualifications, WUSAC's the place to be!
We offer training from absolute beginners (BSAC Ocean Diver) to more advanced and technical courses (BSAC Sports Diver and Dive Leader). Additionally, we also offer a variety of skill development courses throughout the year for more specific training.
The Ocean Diver course is BSAC's entry level scuba diving course. The course teaches you everything to make you a very competent diver, and a BSAC qualification is internationally recognised, allowing you to come on our weekend dive trips and annual tours, and dive recreationally all over the world.
The Ocean Diver course is open to anyone, and assumes that you have had little or no experience of diving.
The course consists of 7 theory lectures, 5 pool sessions (these take place in the Sports Centre pool), a theory exam and 5 open water dives.
The Sports Diver course is the next step after completing Ocean Diver. Sports diver introduces some more advanced techniques and rescue skills. As a qualified Sports Diver you will be able to dive to 35m.
The Sports Diver course is open to qualified Ocean Divers or an equivalent qualification with another training agency. (Please see the crossover page for more information.)
The Sports Diver course consists of 6 theory lectures, a short pool session, a theory assessment and 5 open water dives.
The Dive Leader course is designed to extend your development beyond Sports Diver by broadening your diving skills and knowledge. The course develops existing skills allowing you to lead less qualified divers, including those at the beginning of their diving experience, and to lead divers of equal experience in more challenging and adventurous diving.
The course is open to experienced Sports Divers (or equivalent).
The Dive leader course consists of 12 classroom lessons, 7 open water lessons, 2 dry practical lessons and a theory assessment. To qualify as a Dive Leader you must also have done at least 40 dives in a variety of conditions.
Instructor training is done on a regional level by the regional coaching team. As a result you must book up for courses through BSAC, please see this webpage for more details. All the exec at WUSAC are here to offer any support and advice should you want to progress to instructor level.
To become fully qualified, you must go through four stages: The Instructor Foundation Course, the Open Water Instructor Course and the practical and theory instructor exams.
