The Dive Leader Course
The Dive Leader course is designed to extend your development beyond Sports Diver by broadening your diving skills and knowledge. This is achieved by:
- Extending diving experience in a variety of conditions and depth There is no substitute other than "going diving" to extend a diver's experience of varying underwater conditions. The maximum depth of 50m can be encompassed within a Dive Leaders diving experience, if they so choose.
- Developing existing dive leading skills:
- To lead less qualified divers, including those at the beginning of their diving experience, trainee Ocean Divers.
- To lead divers of equal experience in more challenging and adventurous diving.
What's involved?
The Dive leader course consists of 12 classroom lessons, 7 open water lessons, 2 dry practical lessons and a (tough!) theory assessment. To qualify as a Dive Leader you must also have done at least 40 dives in a variety of conditions. The course is open to experienced Sports Divers. One way of completing some of the lessons is to attend the Practical Rescue Managedment, O2 Administration and Dive Planning and Management SDCs, they're advertised here.
Why should I do the Dive Leader course?
The Dive Leader course is an excellent way to expand your diving experience. As well as developing your own diving and dive leading skill the course also gives you an expanded role within the club. Dive Leader is also an important qualification for those wishing to progress as a BSAC instructor.
